barjeel
The windtower of the Arabian Gulf coast.
Along the Gulf coast, square windtowers called barjeel rose above houses to catch the sea breeze and pull it into the rooms below. Dubai's historic Al Fahidi (Bastakiya) quarter still shows a cluster of them.
